Classic Keema Matar

Prep Time – 10 Minutes
Cook Time – 35 Minutes
Yield – 4
Difficulty Level – Easy

Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 pound beef mince
  • 2 onions (thinly sliced)
  • 4 tomatoes (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon ginger paste
  • 1 cup green peas
  • 1 teaspoon white cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon dried coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 black cardamom
  • 2 cloves
  • 3 green chilies (finely chopped)
  • 3 to 4 pepper corns
  • ½ teaspoon black cumin
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons chopped mint
  • ½ teaspoon red chili powder

Recipe Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add garlic and ginger paste. Sauté for 1 minute then add keema (mince) and cook for about 4 to 5 minutes with constant stirring.
  2. Now add sliced onions, salt, red chili powder, coriander, white cumin seeds and curry powder and mix well. Again cook for 3 to 4 more minutes.
  3. Now when the onions are translucent, add tomatoes, cover the pan and cook for about 6 to 7 minutes at low heat.
  4. Uncover the pan and smash the tomatoes with wooden spatula. Add the green peas, green chilies and 1 cup water. Again cook for about 10 to 12 minutes or until the peas are tender and ready.
  5. Now take cinnamon stick, black cardamom, cloves, black cumin, and pepper corns in a grinder and grind until fine powder. Set aside sealed until used (sealing will help in locking the aroma and fresh taste of garam masala powder)
  6. Take out the keema with green peas in a serving dish, sprinkle the garam masala and garnish the keema with chopped mint. Enjoy with garlic bread or hot naans.
